Mighty Muskegon

Trip Overview

From upstream at Crawford Park off Hwy 66 to 50th Ave. We had two adults and two kids in kayaks. The water moves at a good pace and the river is pretty shallow all the way out to the middle, but not so much that you have to portage. There are some downed trees in a few spots, including one that sticks out halfway across the river, but it is easy to get around. We went on a Wednesday and we were the only people besides a small group of tubers. Although most of the land on both sides is private property we were able to find a few sandbanks to stop and swim at. This is an easy paddle especially for kids just starting out in their own boat. This trip is 4 miles and it took us 2 hours and 15 minutes at a very leisurely pace.
