Messerschmidt Pond in Connecticut

Trip Overview

Nice 82-acre pond, thats extremely clean and offers a good couple hours of paddling. It was a very pretty area, some of the little coves have some weeds and lily pad growth but nothing excessive, those areas are shallow anyway. There are a couple of islands which I didn't get out and check out but that were pretty good size. This is a wildlife management area, and from what I could see very well kept up. The fishing for those that were out there for that seemed excellent as witnessed by the bucket of pike that were no little guys that I saw. With the exception of some road noise I found little to deter my opinion that this was a worthwhile place for a day paddle. I was there mid day and didn't see any wildlife I wouldn't have expected and it was a bonus to have a fairly large snapping turtle fooling around near some lily pads and then stick its head up to check me out. Definitely worth the drive from wherever you are coming from.
