Trip Overview

Today was our first canoe adventure as a family. My husband canoed a lot as a kid and I have gone about a dozen times in my 48 years on this earth. We have an 8-year old daughter and a 5-year old ADHD son, so although we have had this second-hand canoe next to the shed for three years this was the first time we ventured out together.

I chose Messerschmidt Pond because of the other post on here and it was great to have that info.

All I can say is, we couldn't have picked a better day or location to introduce the kids (and dog) to canoeing. It was PERFECT! We arrived just before noon, parked easily in the shade, carried canoe and gear to water's edge and set off.

It is a beautiful spot with lots of little places to explore. The kids particularly loved exploring the island in the middle of the lake. It definitely added to the adventure for them and now all they want to know is WHEN are we going again? I think we will quickly outgrow this spot but we couldn't have asked for a better introduction for the family.
