Markwood to Wangaratta on the Ovens River

Trip Overview

The put in was at the Pioneer Bridge at Markwood which is easily accessible and has camping and toilets. There is a beach which is great for swimming. It is then 12kms paddle down to Tarrawingee Reserve with light rapids and took 3.5 hours. The reserve has camping and picnic tables which is where i camped for the night. The next day was a 20km paddle down to the Frank Garth Reserve in Wangaratta with light rapids. This portion passes under the Hume Freeway and goes past the Ovens Billabong camp area which is a good lunch spot. This section can be done as quickly as 4 hours. The take out at Wangaratta is easily accessible however no camping is allowed.
