Trip Overview

Launch area can be busy in the summer as it provides access to the ocean. The City of Virginia Beach has recently built this launch and facilities are excellent!

CAUTION: Lynnhaven River and its tributaries can be as deep as 3 to 4 feet or as shallow as 3 to 4 inches. Watch the tides and the prevailing wind, as both can dramatically affect the depth of the water.

A day trip through the saltwater marshes of the Lynnhaven River can be extremely relaxing. You can expect to see Osprey, Egrets, Herons and even Bald Eagles. Paddling deeper into the Lynnhaven River will provide the paddler with a view of some of the most expensive residential real estate in Virginia Beach.

Jet ski's and larger boat traffic can be a nuisance at the ramp and in the channel, but the water is shallow outside the channel and provides an excellent safe haven for paddlers.
