Lumber River in North Carolina

Trip Overview

Put in at the dirt ramp on N Turnpike Road (CR1412) and floated/paddled downriver to the established (concrete) boat ramp at HWY 401.

The river was mostly clear of logs, and a crew of canoers behind us was clearing everything that touched their boats with a chainsaw, so completely passable.

The river is completely covered by tree canopy, and easily 15 degrees cooler than in town- makes for a very nice paddle. Both river access points have good parking, though only the one on 401 is actually an established ramp.
