- Lower Kalamazoo River, Allegan State Game Area
Lower Kalamazoo River, Allegan State Game Area
Trip Overview
We recommend a stretch located west of M40 running to the Michigan Lakeshore, the lower section from below Lake Allegan to Hacklander Boat Landing is designated as natural river and offers some very nice paddling with relaxing views of wildlife. Travel along the Swan Lake Area Refuge (Restricted Area) and Ottawa Marsh, accessible outside of Fennville.
We have multiple day trips available in this section of the river featuring enjoyable recreational paddling for family outings and group events. Trips range from approximately 2 hours to a full day.
Safety Notes
Natural stretch of river that flows through the Allegan State Game Area. Limited access points and development along the river. Stay on main river, tributaries are not paddle safe and mostly private land.
Gear Notes
Bring plenty of sunscreen, little to no shade and plenty of water for hydration.
Conditions
Flat water with gentle current. Tree falls along most of the banks with lots of sand bars for relaxing, however, river is deep in most areas. Rich in wildlife and raptor sightings.
