Lookout Creek in Georgia

Trip Overview

I recently paddled upstream from the old mill/dam for approximately 2 miles. It was a moderate workout as I was solo in a 16' canoe. I had to wade and tow the canoe in two spots. I went as far as time allowed me (about 2 hrs).

Coming back down stream, there are about 4 brief runs where the creek perks up and you would have to dodge a few strainers and sweepers. A good trip for beginners.

Kayakers could probably go upstream further.

I met a few people locally that say they put in at Rising Fawn (upstream 8 miles south of Trenton), and float all the way to the dam...or even to the Hang Glide Park further downstream. May try that soon.

Accommodations:

No facilities

Fees:

None that I know of

Directions:

From Atlanta....I-75 N to I-24 W to I-59 South to Trenton exit .....then left onto 136 East. You will soon come to the Lookout Creek Bridge. The bridge is unmarked, but Lookout Creek is the only body of water in the area. Before the bridge, take a right onto Sells Road. There will be a parking area on your left at the ruins of an old gristmill. This is the put-in point.
