Trip Overview

We canoed from Lowell Rd. to Bauer Road using Harlow's Wacousta Canoe Rental (9988 Riverside Dr, Eagle, MI 48822 phone: 517-626-6873). The trip was about 3 hours of flatwater canoeing.

We stopped at a park that was a bit over half way on the north side of the river (NorthEast of the Wacousta & Herbison Road intersection). The USGS river gauge reported 2.6 feet and 25 cfs which was barely enough for canoeing -- we had to steer carefully to keep from scraping yet scraped quite a few times.

The river is wooded with few houses until the end. We saw many ducks, a Great Blue Heron, a red-tailed hawk, a Cooper's hawk, and many Pilieated Woodpeckers.

Accommodations:

There were two parks: one mentioned in the article and a second further down the river.

We used the livery to transport our own canoe and rent one canoe.

Directions:

Lowell Rd is Northwest of Exit 84 (Airport Rd) of I-69 North of Lansing, MI. Take the exit North to Clark and then West to Lowell and the North to the river.

The take out point at Bauer Rd can be found by continuing further west on Clark to Bauer and then North to the river.
