Loggy Bayou in Louisiana

Trip Overview

I took my dog and we paddled from the access point inside the Loggy Bayou Wildlife Managment area (bossier parish) to the highway 515 bridge (Red River parish). The first 1/4 of the trip was inside the wildlife managment area and I saw no signs of civilization; was quiet and pretty.

Once the river passes under the highway 71 bridge your on private property which is all cow pastures. Stopping at highway 71 bridge would be a nice 3-4 mile paddle with a easy point to take out. I went way on down to highway 515 bridge which was not as scenic as the first 1/4 of the trip. I saw lots of ducks, squirrels, and beavers - no other people.

I called my wife from the 515 bridge on cell phone and she came and drove me back to my truck. The 515 bridge is not easy to take out at - steep and lots of barbed wire fences with no gates.

Directions:

Take highway 71 south from Bossier city or north from Coushatta. One mile north of the loggy bayou bridge is the "Levee board road" - take that. Follow Levee Board Road until you get to a fork, go right and follow that until you reach the putin spot (you might need a 4X4 - can be muddy).
