Trip Overview

Little River at Hwy 70 to Neuse River at 117

After a week of rain the rivers have risen and we can once more paddle them. Having never gone this route before, none of us knew what to expect.

After putting in to the Little River at Hwy 70 and heading down stream we found the river difficult to travel. The near flood level waters were swift and the many trees were difficult to navigate. We got caught one the trees more than once, but we made it through.

Not sure if the Little River is any better when it isn't flooded, but it was beautiful when there were no trees to contend with.

Once we arrived at the Neuse River it was smooth sailing and peaceful still chilly but beautiful. We made a stop at Waynesborough Park and had a brief rest and snack as well as talked with one of the parks representatives. Very pleasant and much needed break after fighting through the Little River.

Once our rest stop was complete we continued down stream to our take out at Hwy 117 boat ramp near Whiskey Dick's. In the end everyone had a pleasant time and with the increased water level and current the trip lasted about 3 hours.
