Trip Overview

Lake Monroe -

Deam Wilderness Area, Hoosier National Forest

The Middle Fork of Salt Creek and upper end of Lake Monroe goes through the goes through the Deam Wilderness Area of Hoosier National Forest.

Real wilderness in Indiana!
Saw lots of wildlife, including bald eagles, otters, deer, and more.

Good wilderness camping and fishing. All flat water. Best times: April - June or September through November.

Outfitting:

Was outfitted by Most High Adventure Outfitters. They erected a camp (tent, lantern, cooler with ice, water, firewood, table, chairs) for us before we got there, and then dropped us in the water with kayaks they provided and our sleeping bags, toilet paper and food.

Fees:

The outfitter covered the $5 permit.

The cost of the supported trip with kayak and camp was $75/person.
