Lake Martin

Trip Overview

Family paddling trip. 5 kayaks to paddle and photograph Lake Martin and the surrounding Louisiana swamp. Beautiful calm lake filled with nesting Birds, alligators, and even a few bass if you bring the pole. Lake offers some of the most beautiful scenery you will find in Louisiana, with cypress trees, Cypress knees, Spanish moss.. And though there are motor boats, they stayed at the center due to the cypress trees, allowing the majority of the lake to be great paddling. There are three swamp tour facilities on the edge of the lake, and there is a public launch for no cost. The public launch is a concrete ramp and there are several places to launch kayaks right near that ramp if you want to give the motor boats their room. They also have porta potties and good free parking.

Safety Notes

No it wasn't a problem when I was out there, I would recommend bringing some insect repellent. Have to remember this is a swamp. Bringing some cold drinks because you'll be there awhile. You won't want to leave

Gear Notes

If you want to fish bring some good spinner baits. I would also recommend bringing some cold drinks because you'll be there awhile. You won't want to leave.

Conditions

Though there are motorboats, they stay mostly to the inside. In addition the cypress trees slow their wake down even if they do come close to the edge. As I said earlier bring insect repellent just in case.
