Trip Overview

Starting out across from the Codorus State Park Visitor Center, We ventured northeast past Long & Round Islands -ultimately coming to the dam at the lakes far end. Noticed a Blue Heron on the shoreline periodically but didn't see the Osprey at their protected nest on Long Island. Return trip was mostly in the dark but a full moon & the shoreline made it easy to get back. Very nice, unseasonably warm day & evening with the lakes super-flat water.

Safety Notes

Keep distance from the south end of Long Island due to protected Osprey nest. -possible fine since these birds are endangered. Also take note of no boats allowed area at the dam.

Gear Notes

We had 2 Future Beach Fusion 124 with Cannon paddles and DBX Vector life vests. (& Attwood safety whistles!)

Conditions

This lake is perfect for beginners but the wind coming across this vast open area can make tough waves for small craft (maybe Intermediate skill needed!). Always check conditions before going out.
