Lake Cumberland in Kentucky

Trip Overview

Another one of those incredible days that I just have to write about. It's been awhile since I posted anything on here. I now compete in Fishing/Kayaking tournaments in the East and LOVE IT! So to tone up my skills, I took off early this morning from Lees Ford Dock.

First cast and I had a large mouth caught on a wacky worm that I weighted down with a lite handmade weight. It was only 8 inches but worth a picture. Since it was early, I had the lake to myself and paddled the shoreline with a shiner dangling in hopes of a striper while casting for bass with the other.

I'm paddling a Perception Swifty II which treks well with one person and enough room for all my gear. It's been awhile and I decide to call my Mom in NC to tell her my experience. I have my striper rod tucked under one leg as we talked and then WHAM! I felt it hit hard on my leg and the rod bent over and almost under the boat. Of course the boat shifted sideways hard and I had to counteract the weight. HOLD ON MOM! Dropping the phone....the rod snaps back and he got away. WOOOOOWWW. "Stay on the phone Mom, one more cast.) Didn't catch another but she was yelling too.

If the day could get any better.... I drove through my home town down Highway 27 and I see a fishing kayak in front of a store I haven't noticed before. Immediate right turn. I walk in and there are KAYAKS and CANOES everywhere! The newest KAYAK STORE! And they are going to be doing trips, excursions, lessons and more! Life is great!

Lots of new and refurbished hotels, several campgrounds right on the lake. Good restaurants. Alcohol only served in restaurants.

Not for kayakers!
