Kinchafoonee Creek in Georgia

Trip Overview

Today was a pretty, but chilly day to go kayaking. We put in at Hwy 32 Bridge in Leesburg, GA and paddled down to Century Road Bridge. It was myself, husband, and our 2 children.

The current was a moving pretty fast, probably due to the fact that is had rained the last 2 days. The Creek is narrow at the begining with lots of curves, down trees; but pretty limestone banks. They are several sandbars along the way for bathroom stops and the stretch your legs. We did not see any wildlife, we did see some birds fly off as we came around a curve.

The Kinchafoonee, empties into Lake Chehaw, but we only did one portion. You can put in at Century Road and float to HWY 19 and then on the Lake Chehaw. During the summer the Kinchafoone can get busy due to there being a blue hole that is also a popular swimming spot.

Directions:

From Leesburg, turn right at McDonalds onto Hwy 32 at the bridge turn left and drive down a small and bumpy road to the creek.

You will need to park another car at Century Road... to get there, drive though Leesburg on the 4 lane and go past McDonalds, the first road (there is a caution light) on the right is Century Road, turn and right before you get the the bridge there is a road on the left, turn left and then immediatly right and park down the creek. No shuttle service.
