Trip Overview

From the slough launch we paddled out to the Willamette for a short loop. There was no heavy boat traffic, which was good because this was the maiden voyage of Tango, our Seda tandem sea kayak that we just purchased. She is 22 feet long and a veteran of kayak tours in the Sea of Cortez. She's a little bruised and battered, but still watertight. She handles very nicely, and we look forward to many more adventures. After checking out the river, we came back up the slough toward the Smith/Bybee lakes. It was late in day so we didn't get all the way up to the lake. We heard lots of birds singing, and saw signs of beavers gnawing on several small trees. No actual beaver sightings.
