Definitely avoid the dams. There are other routes that go on the dams and are very treacherous. Stay on the main river and end at Fannie Fell Park. Pay a small fee to park at D Avenue but it's a great spot to put in. Picking up in Plainwell is a good spot. We have inflatable kayaks which were great on most of the river but the treacherous routes were rough.
