Trip Overview

What I did on my summer vacation: I spent my early mornings out on the Gulf of Mexico, before the boats and swimmers and wind started kicking up the surf. We were in Florida during a full moon, so most mornings, I had a full moon setting to the west as the sun was rising in the east. Lots of dolphin and what I swear were small sharks breached all around me. It was also stingray mating season, so there were lots of those, too. Some chop, but mostly smooth waves, not too taxing. I tried some afternoon kayaking, but the waves were too choppy at that point for it to be fun anymore!

Accommodations:

Any kind of condo/hotel/motel/BB/cabin you would like. We rented a beach house and had the beach to ourselves.

Fees:

None.

Directions:

Any of the beaches along Gulf Boulevard between Clearwater and St. Pete Beach. The Intracoastal Waterway is also terrific kayaking.
