Illinois River in Oklahoma

A self-supported trip created by guest-paddler

Trip Overview

The Illinois River runs from Northwestern Arkansas to Lake Tenkiller. There are a lot of stops to put in. It is also runs right next to Talequah, Oklahoma home of Northeastern Oklahoma State University. You can really tell once you get closer to the town with all of the hustle and bustle.

There are camping spots galore. No worries

There is one little trick though... you have to go to the Scenic River Commssion and buy a permit for $5.00 a canoe

There are at least 30 spots to put in all the way up to Siloam Springs Arkansas. But it is only maintained from Flint Creek down to Lake Tenkiller.
