Put in at Hunting Run with the help of a shuttle, and took out at the (very busy) Motts Run Boat Ramp, the old Clore Brothers. Right after the big mountain rain on Thursday / Friday, the Culpeper Rapidan gauge was at a high 2.3ft, so this was gonna be a fast one. Most rocks, except the largest boulders near the confluence of the Rapidan and Rappahannock, were underwater, making for efficient if occasionally bumpy paddling. Not a very busy day on the river, and I think the speed of it may have discouraged some. What a ride through the cluster of Class II around the confluence of Rapidan and Rappahannock, though--so fun and fast one of our number flipped out of the kayak. Easily recovered, we made the full 9.5 miles in about two and a half hours, for an average speed of 4mph.
Safety Notes
High water (2.3 on Culpeper gauge) meant Class IIs were fairly quick and tough to maneuver
