Housatonic River in Connecticut

A self-supported trip created by bigmafioso

Trip Overview

Launched at Meadow Brook State Park above Cornwall Bridge Rd. on Rt 7. After some flooding rain this past week the river was really moving with some good rapids at upper sections. I got a few gallons water in open boat hitting rapids.

This was same Day trip as last year in almost 1/2 the time, just 3hrs 10 min. Everyone used kayaks with life vests(important)a great trip. Flooded browned fast moving water with some slower long stretches.

This river has different conditions different times of year. I like the higher volume of water - faster moving and I don't have to worry about shallow areas and scraping rocks

Accommodations:

In town of Kent (at end of trip) is shops and food: Kent Pizza, Shopping etc. There are B&Bs all along Rt 7 to stay. Also visit nearby farms, museum, covered bridges, Kent Falls etc. Scenic area.

Fees:

None that I know of; just Fishing license if you're to fish.

Directions:

Drive up Rt 7. When entering Kent turn left cross bridge and take right.

Pick up is on Skiff Mountain Road in Kent; just north of kent school along road there are some places to pull over. You must drive well up the road past the school or you'll be ticketed by police. It is posted at lower part of skiff mountain road. I put a bright orange flag on a branch so when we came down we can find where we where to get out.

After leaving a vehicle at Kent drive up Rt 7 to Meadowbrook Park to launch.
