Hosmer Lake in Oregon

Trip Overview

Cold, clear canals opening into flatwater with islands makes Hosmer my favorite destination. A favorite of fly fishermen, Hosmer is surrounded by reeds and full of water lilies. The canals that flow through the area provide a perfect trail into the flatwater where you can paddle around and explore islands. Plenty of planted Atlantic Salmon (Ive been told that's what they are) visible through the usually clear water.

Accommodations:

Basic campsites... probably 25 foot max. No water, vault toilets. Very, very particular camp hosts.

Fees:

$5 per vehicle.

Directions:

Cascade Lakes Highway out of Bend, past Sparks Lake, past Elk Lake Resort and Point Campground. Take the 2nd Elk Lake Loop road, which is marked with a sign that says Hosmer Campground. As you drive up to the boat ramp, it will look like a dinky lake that goes nowhere. This is deceiving.
