Trip Overview

Caladesi & Honeymoon Island SP - (16 miles)

Monday I put in at the Dunedin Causeway and paddled out to Caladesi Island. My plan was to circumnavigate the island. The island is a state park with only a couple of buildings. As I was paddling down the backside I started to see multimillion-dollar homes. I started to wonder if the SP was only a portion of the island and that there was a residential section. But this did not make sense so I started to suspect that I was paddling off of Clearwater Beach. I stopped and asked and was told that Caladesi Island ended back about miles. So I paddled back and sure enough the cut between the island and the mainland had filled with sand since the last time I was there about seven years ago. I could see where the cut was once I knew that it was closed. Monday evening I camped in my van on the causeway. Tuesday I decided to try to circumnavigate Honeymoon Island SP. that is another island at the end of the Dunedin Causeway. I did not know how far it was around the island but I gave it a go it ended up being eight miles. The weather both days was sunny and warm. I finished about noon had a shower and a cup of coffer then drove home. Both of these beaches are nationally ranked in the top ten in the world. It was a great vacation.
