Honey Creek in Ohio

Trip Overview

As I follow up to the report on Honey Creek from County Road 19 to the Sandusky River:

You can start Honey Creek at the small park east of St. Rt. 100 on the south side of Melmore and take out at the Belmar (tavern mentioned earlier).

Looking upstream from the bridge on St. Rt 100 there is a small riffle. If there is enough water to float you over that riffle the water should be high enough for the section.

This is a beautiful small stream, my favorite in north west Ohio. Last time I was down, maybe 2009 there was one log jam to portage. The log jam was not there in previous years. Very short but somewhat difficult portage. Allow about 5 hours to reach the Belmar at a leisurely pace.

Fees:

A couple bucks to take out at the Belmar unless you buy a couple cold ones.

Directions:

Take St. Rt. 100 south from Tiffin.

Melmore is maybe 6 or 7 miles.
