Hanging Fork Creek

Trip Overview

This creek is smaller than the Dix River, but has some nice scenery. Class I. Put in at the 590(Hubble Rd) Bridge. Minimal parking at the put in. From the put in, it's about 4.3 miles to the convergence with Dix River. After the convergence, you have some nice class II rapids(already reviewed by another paddler for the Dix River). Right before the two streams converge, there is a small concrete dam that is broken on the left side(at least the last time I saw it). This makes for a nice little ride if you're up for it, or you can get out and walk around the dam on the right. Again, after the convergence, you have about 1.3 miles to the bridge at Hwy 52.

Safety Notes

inexperienced paddlers should probably port to the right of the dam.

Conditions

Suggest running the Hanging Fork when the Dix is at least 500 CFS.

Portage Notes

Port to the right at the small concrete dam
