Trip Overview

Grand River - from the Grand River Marketplace to R.A. Greene Park

I would not recommend this trip. The oil spill in May 2014 has left a lingering bad smell in the area. There were many trees down to navigate around and one very large tree that we had to portage to get around.

This is definitely not a trip for beginners or children. There was not much scenery or wildlife, partly an industrial area. There was a lot of trash and even a tire along the way.

The park at the end of the trip is just past a sewage treatment plant. This didn't smell nice either.

The river was mostly slow-moving with some areas of slightly faster-moving water.

Accommodations:

There are businesses nearby at the put-in launch with restrooms. The launch itself is decent with a grassy area and small dock, although the water is a little faster moving in this area. The take-out launch has a porta-potty next to the river. The launch is a little hike across a grassy area from the parking area. It is difficult to see where the river is from the parking area.

Fees:

No

Directions:

Grand River Marketplace is at the intersection of Louis Glick Hwy and N Mechanic St downtown Jackson. R.A. Greene Park is on Lansing Rd near the intersection of Woodworth Rd by the railroad tracks in Blackman Township.
