Trip Overview

Great relaxing, peaceful paddle trip.

Begin by crossing turn of the century Mill Pond. Then enter 3 mile canoe trail which winds through a tupelo cypress swamp.

I saw many types of waterfowl. The most impressive was the the nesting blue herons. I saw six nests in all. Also saw various turtles, several snakes, and assorted birds. Heard distinct bellowing of male alligator while I ate my lunch in a shaded pool.

Pay close attention to trail markers, and when they run out...turn around. All in all a great, relaxing paddle in a Wilderness Systems Pungo 120.

Fees:

$2.00 admittance fee to park.

Kayak rental (if appropriate) is $7.00.

Directions:

About 10 miles off of I-20. See Goodale State Park website for directions.
