Gasper River in Kentucky

Trip Overview

Conditions were cold on the Gasper today. I have never been down this river before but I am assuming the river is a little low. Our kayaks scrapped the bottom on a few locations, but we never had to get out of the kayak.

The first part of the trip was nice with various rapids and small breaks in between. I'm not a very experienced kayaker, but I would estimate the rapids to be within class II. It was a lot of fun for the most part. During the later part of our trip the water was very flat and the scenery wasn't as nice, but still a nice winter day to be on the water.

Directions:

Putting in on State HWY 626, also called Jacksons Bridge Road. Just pull off on the side of the road. We got out of the water on US 231.
