Fox River, Big Bend to Waterford

Trip Overview

This was my wife’s and I first paddling adventure. We wanted to try paddling so we found place close to home on the Fox River that rents canoes. The rental company meets at Captain Missy’s bar in Waterford. There is free parking across the street from the bar. We were early so we went inside and had a drink at the bar while we waited for the canoe rental to arrive. The rental company shuttled us up river to Big Bend Village Park boat landing. From there, we were on our way. The river is self was slow moving but very peaceful and serene, even more so when we got farther down river away from the busy road. Saw a lot birds including heron and hawks, and turtles on just about every piece of wood sticking out of the water. We encountered a few motor boats heading up river along the way but their noise quickly faded off in the distance. The entire trip was approximately six miles and took us about 3 hours. We did however just sit back a drift along for a while just taking in the serenity of nature. For our first trip, it was a wonderful experience. Next time we plan on renting a tandem kayak.
