Fort Pike in Louisiana

Trip Overview

Fort Pike is a Civil War era fort built in the mid 1800's. It is a great place to visit before or after your paddle. Situated 50 yards from the front gate is a public boat launch. From here you can paddle around the fort, Lake Ponchatrain, and the Rigolets. Just north of the fort is the aging West Rigolets Lighthouse. This wooden lighthouse was built in the late 1800's and is no longer in use today. It is a great place to paddle as there is so many awesome things to see within a 3 mile radius. The currents are not too bad most of the time and the local people are very friendly. The city of Slidell is 5 minutes north and provides many places to eat lunch.
