Trip Overview

Flint River-Yellowjacket Shoals - Please be advised that as with any river the Flint can become very powerful at high water levels. At 7000 cfs if Yellowjacket is not class 4 I will eat my boat. All my eddies were gone. My usual route center to river left and back to center contained some 2-3 foot waves with some impressive holes. The main chute, invisible from above, had two monstrous holes with 4-5 foot standing waves. It was all I could do to line up snout downstream as the canoe stood on her hind legs in the large waves. This is not the mild upper Flint at 8 feet. This is a warning to the unprepared.
