Exeter River in New Hampshire

A self-supported trip created by guest-paddler

Trip Overview

Out of all the places I have kayaked, this is my favorite!

We put in at Raymond, on Blueberry Road, and actually paddled all the way down to Gilman Park in Exeter. There are a lot of variances in the trip, ie water depths, river widths, swamp. There can be a lot of rocks you can't see, a lot of deadfall, there are a few man made dams you need to get out and port around, a few beaver dams, some large pine you have to get out and go around, and a set of small "rapids".

It is a twisty maze of shortcuts and surprises. There are some very beautiful and old trees, especially on the Exeter side of the 108 bridge. If you go past Gilman Park, you can paddle to the bridge to the falls at downtown Exeter.

We have seen a ton of deer, ducks, geese, a swan, red tailed hawks, heron, beaver, possum, and something we thought was an otter.
