Trip Overview

My sons, their girlfriends, my daughter and I put our kayaks and canoes in the Elkhorn off the Hiway 92 bridge and floated downriver to the Hiway 6 bridge by Linoma beach. The river is shallow in most places and when the Elkhorm meets the Platte it becomes much wider, but very shallow. The current is slow but it's a great place to get your feet "wet" with new kayaks and canoes. It's your typical slow moving Nebraska river but it's fun for the family. It's approx 10-12 miles and took us about 6 hours with frequent stops on sand bars for exploring and what not. There's a place to park your vehicle at the Linoma Beach parking area and a good spot to leave your vehicle at the put in spot. It's a very easy trip.

Accommodations:

Great parking, that's about it!

Directions:

Leave your vehicle at Linoma Beach and go back on Hiway 6 east and then through Gretna. After approx 6 miles you will come to the West Center Road intersection, go towards Hiway 92 and Wahoo. Take the first left after crossing the Elkhorm river and you can park there.
