Trip Overview

I paddled three hours from the ramp in Shanklin Park in Goshen, Indiana to the Canoe Launch at Oxbow Park between Goshen and Elkhart, Indiana. Rogers Park, mentioned in the 2004 report, is 45 minutes downriver from Shanklin and makes an excellent short trip suitable for those with small children.

All the conditions mentioned in the 2004 report are the same. I observed river otters twice as well as turtles attesting to good water quality.

This is a good short trip for local paddlers. There is no evidence that anyone is using the river for tubing or swimming. However,it is a pleasant outing with lots of green shoreline, good current, and no obstructions.

Accommodations:

Developed boat ramps and launch sites inside attractive parks with water and flush toilettes. Shanklin has a guarded pool and extensive playground equipment. No liveries as stated.

Fees:

No permits required.
Ox Bow Park charges a two-dollar fee for entry

Directions:

Shanklin Park is is off 119 (Plymouth Ave.) in Goshen. Go to the intersection on SR 15 and Plymouth and turn west.

Oxbow Park is just north of US 33 (Lincoln Ave.) across from Meijer's over the RR tracks.
