I paddled three hours from the ramp in Shanklin Park in Goshen, Indiana to the Canoe Launch at Oxbow Park
between Goshen and Elkhart, Indiana. Rogers Park
, mentioned in the 2004 report
, is 45 minutes downriver from Shanklin and makes an excellent short trip suitable for those with small children.
All the conditions mentioned in the 2004 report are the same. I observed river otters twice as well as turtles attesting to good water quality.
This is a good short trip for local paddlers. There is no evidence that anyone is using the river for tubing or swimming. However,it is a pleasant outing with lots of green shoreline, good current, and no obstructions.
Developed boat ramps and launch sites inside attractive parks with water and flush toilettes. Shanklin has a guarded pool and extensive playground equipment. No liveries as stated.
No permits required.
Ox Bow Park charges a two-dollar fee for entry
