Eel River in Indiana

Trip Overview

I dropped in just before sunrise at the old wooden bridge on 440 West (just a couple minutes drive from U.S. 31). There is easy access here and a place to leave a vehicle. There's a nice spot to enter the water just under the bridge.

I reached the bridge just south of Hoover after about an hour on the water. I continued on another hour and a half to the bridge at Adamsboro. There is great access here with parking, boat ramp and even a pavilion.

The total trip (440 W bridge to Adamsboro) was about 2 1/2 hours, without continuous paddling. You can add another 25 minutes to the trip if you drop in at highway 31, but it has poor river access.

This is a very nice float, mostly through woods. I saw lots of wildlife - ducks, geese, heron, a hawk, a bald eagle, otter, a beaver, baby racoons, even a coyote. I've never seen that much wildlife on a 2 1/2 hour float before.

I highly recommend this trip. Looks like some great fishing spots as well, though I didn't have a pole with me.
