Trip Overview

Ebridge (or Dilham) Mill, is a locke location on the Happisburgh Road out of North Walsham.

A well looked after body of water, popular for swimming and fishing. There is a free car park, and a lovely walk on either side of the river.

You can launch from a number of places. Stairs go down into the water for swimmers, a wooden Dock of the far west side of the little island (across the locked bridge), where you will also find a little cluster of benches with a picnic table attached to the back.

On the car park side, there is a floating jetty that is perfect for launching paddleboards and kayaks from.

When leaving the starting point down the river, be mindful of buoys, that mark where the current flows down a concrete slipway into the lock. You want to avoid going near this.

The river is about 1.5 miles long, nice and quiet. Can get a bit reedy on the surface in June/July.

You'll reach a bend in the river with some large houses on either side, then a small quaint bridge to paddle under. This then opens up into another dead-end area, much like the starting point.

There are little stops on the banks along the way, but these are just trodden down reeds and grass. No real dock etc. The water never really went above 6ft deep when measured with my paddle along the route. Very muddy in places.
