Dungeness Bay, Washington

A self-supported trip created by Pertribe135

Trip Overview

Launched at Cline Spit County Park and paddled on the outgoing tide to Dungeness Harbor and along Dungeness Spit past the lighthouse. Paddled briefly around the end of the spit as the water was totally calm. Saw some puffins and a rhinoceros auklet. Then turned back into the bay as the tide had changed and the incoming tide would have taken us in the wrong direction in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. In the bay we spotted two dolphins that appeared to be fishing as they methodically swam back and forth in rectangles of 100 yards or so. As we got closer, we saw it was a mother and calf, not sure what they were doing but they seemed oblivious to us. They kept “quartering” the area as we paddled by. Beautiful day
