Trip Overview

Dark Brook Reservoir, Auburn, MA Put in on 5-65 West Street Auburn, MA right across from Middle School, Fire House & Firefighting training. Parked in training parking lot. Boat ramp is closed to trailer launching but not to hand launching kayak or canoe. Of the 3 bodies of water I navigated 2 largest ones on south side of RT 90 Mass Pike and notrh side of Rt 90. South side is quiet and I was only one on water. Maybe different birds, fish and turtles abound. Passing under Rt 90 (50' tunnel between N & S sides) had a bit more activity. The day I was ther only hand powered boats in the water. North side there are a few different islands w/ small beach areas available to stop and snack... A light wind can build causing a little chop as typical open water can produce

Safety Notes

Careful crossing West Street to launch area. Hill and curve in road and cars can come fast. You may have part of your boat exposed to road as you walk around or over the gate bar.

Gear Notes

No special gear required

Conditions

Weather was sunny, 80s and light wind.

Portage Notes

Did not test to see if crossing under West Street to other body of water required portage.
