The trip starts out with rather plain scenery but quickly turned into something special. As you approach the end of the reservoir where the dam is located the sides of the canyon turn from rolling hills to jagged rocky cliffs with some interesting formations.
Along the way are small islands suitable of docking and taking breaks, railway tracks with trestles built in 1900 and some pretty cool wildlife such as deer, loons, hawks, and other water foul.
Gravel boat launch with restrooms
From Logan, head north out of town on Main Street (HWY 91) until you reach Smithfield (about 6 miles), turn left on 100 North (HWY 218). Head west on HWY 218 until you reach Newton (about 8.3 miles), proceed through town until you reach 6800W. Turn left on 6800 West and drive about 1.2 miles. Turn left on 6200 North just before you reach the reservoir. 6200 North takes you right over to the boat launch. The total distance from Smithfield to the boat launch, according to Google Maps, is about 10 miles.
