Coyote Creek Paddle

Trip Overview

My daughter and I stand-up paddled and kayaked this short stretch of calm water from the Cantrell Road canoe access down to Fern Ridge Reservoir. This access point has limited free parking along side the road and there are no facilities other than a picnic table. Access to the water was a bit difficult because the water level was so low and required us to lower the kayak (and us) down about an 8 foot steep bank. Once on the river however, the paddling was great! We first explored up-stream but could only go about 1/4 mile because of all the trees down across the water. We turned around and went back down-stream. The water was flat and calm and easy paddling all the way down to the reservoir. We had a nice gentle breeze and there were practically no bugs. It was a very nice couple of hours of paddling. I think it would be even more fun earlier in the season with higher water.

Safety Notes

Children might have difficulty getting down the steep bank.

Portage Notes

We only had to get out and pull the boats over a tree when we went up-stream; down-stream there were no portages needed.
