Pleasant paddle from an access point along the East Inlet Road in Pittsburg, NH, down the Connecticut River and into the Second Connecticut Lake. Once on the lake you have options on where to go. We went right along the shore and then up the narrow West Inlet, which fortunately was running very high after heavy overnight rains, allowing us to go further upstream than is probably normally possible. After that we just continued for a ways around the west shore of the lake before striking back directly across the lake to return to our starting point. Just over three miles in an hour and a half. Saw plenty of birds but no mammals.
Safety Notes
The footing is a little tricky getting down to the launch site, but not terrible. Water was flowing fast away from the dam but by the time it reached the launch site it had slowed down so that paddling back upstream wasn't an issue.
