Clear River in Rhode Island

Trip Overview

This was my first time on this river. Had a great time. Water was only about 1-2 feet deep, which posed a problem on the sections that were only 1 foot or less for obvious reasons. Only had to actually get out and walk downstream once or twice, but otherwise pretty fun river for the intermediate paddler.

Not a good river for beginners, flow was decent at maybe 350-450cfs, and with the water level so low there were a ton of rocks to avoid, or hit which I did several times. I even capsized the boat twice (no sprayskirt yet) wouldn't suggest doing this river without one. Not a lot of fun trying to pull up a kayak filled with water and being pushed up against a fallen tree covering the entire length of the river. Live and learn! There are 1-2 waterfalls that you must pullout before as well. They are aprox 8-10 feet.

None

Directions:

Put in wasn't easy; suggest using a GPS and finding the Gloucester RI Fire Dept station, and just stay straight ahead to the end. That will put you at the put in location.
Take out was behind Gus' Red Tavern at the entrance to the Slatersville Reservoir in Nasonville, RI.
