Chunky River in Mississippi

Trip Overview

Put in at Stucky's Bridge and took out at the Stonewall boat ramp, just under 15 miles. The gauge at Chunky was at 3.5 feet. At 5.5 miles river left is Dunn's Falls where we stopped for lunch. We utilized one of the grills in the primitive camping area to cook smoked sausage and rice.

After Dunn's Falls the Chunky starts to look like the Chickasawhay. North of Enterprise, the Chunky joins with Okatibbee Creek to form the Chickasawhay. There is an island, take the right fork. We chose the left and found a big snag at the end and had to paddle against a six mile per hour current. The right side may be rocky during low water. There is a good take out in Enterprise on MS 513 river left, but we chose to continue. South of 513 there is a bank river left with fossilized sand dollars and shells. The rest of the paddle is slow because the river widens and deepens.
