Castle River in Alberta

Trip Overview

Put-in at the race course or below it and float down to the canyons. Some class 2+/3 drops depending on flows, at 30 it was very nice and slightly challenging. It's very quite and rare to see fellow paddlers on that river in the heart of the Crowsnest Pass. 10 km after the put-in it's a little tame with some small waves, lot's of boulders in the centre of the river and after it picks up for another 2 km and then the take out is on private property (prior permission should be sought). Beautiful way to spend a day in Southern Alberta.

Accommodations:

Nothing in that area until you drive 10 km into Pincher Creek.

Directions:

Hwy 2 south to hwy 3 west near Ft Macleod. Drive to the weigh station and take a left and put in at rodeo sign.
