Trip Overview

Last of 11 trips to Knife Lake. Base camp for fishing. We had a Wenonah Wilderness Solo (Tuff Weave) and a Wenonah Spirit II (Kevlar-Gel Coat) and 3 members. Moose Lake through New Foundland, Birch, Carp and Seed. Then Big Knife Portage into Knife. Lots of sun and hot (80s) with south winds and gusty. Caught lots of Small Mouth Bass. Largest was 21.5” and many more ranging from 16-20 inches. Only one walleye, but definitely not the right conditions for them. Got to enjoy otter, beaver, eagles, chipmunks and red squirrels.

Safety Notes

Several of the portages are rocky-craggy. The portage traffic get hectic, especially in the summer time.

Gear Notes

2 Granite Gear Superior One Packs, 2 Granite Gear Quetico Packs, 30 Gal Bear Barrel w/harness, 3 Day packs, Fishing Gear and miscellaneous.
Bending Branches Paddles: 2 bent shaft, 1 straight shaft and 1 kayak (double bladed).

Conditions

Hot and sunny and humid

Portage Notes

5 rod, 50 rod, 25 rod, 15 rod, 45 rod, 75 rod. And the opposite direction during return.
