Trip Overview

Buttahatchee River Trip - Caledonia to Hwy 45

My son, daughter, and I paddled the section from Caledonia to Hwy 45. Put in was on Lawrence Bridge Rd just NW of Caledonia, and take out was the Hwy 45 bridge between Columbus Air Force Base and Hamilton, MS.

The river was still fairly high, with a few shallow gravel sections towards 45. Mostly wide flat water with a some tight, swift spots between trees. Some downed trees in spots to watch out for. We had take out twice because of downed trees. There are several forks. but we just followed the main flow except for once because of downed trees.

Saw several Heron and Kingfisher, and a few snakes also.
The trip took 4 1/2 hrs
