Bungay River in Massachusetts

Trip Overview

We've lived near this site for years and have always wanted to try it. Wish we hadn't. The water was dark brown and almost sludgey. It smelled a bit too.

After about 20 minutes of paddling the river became very overgrown. The other paddlers I was with really wanted to try and make it to the end so we ventured on. After over an hour of squeezing through the tiniest of spaces under the trees/weeds/bushes and throwing numerous spiders and other insects out of the kayaks and on our persons, we came to "the end of the road". A giant tree had fallen and was blocking the entire river.

Upon arrival home, we had to spend another hour scrubbing the brown scum off our kayaks and paddles.

The only positive was that we say numerous turtles and a Blue Heron. Otherwise, a less than positive experience.

I wouldn't recommend this site.
