Trip Overview

Buffalo Lake is a large (2000 acre) flowage lake in Marquette County and is part of the Fox River. Paddling on Buffalo is a fun day trip and if you want to camp somewhere (Buffalo Lake Campground, Highway C), you can extend it to a weekend.

You can either paddle around Buffalo, or go under the Highway D bridge and continue southwest to Endeavor, WI. You can also portage over Highway 22 and take on the Fox, which will take you to Lake Puckaway.

Accommodations:

If you have equipment you can park at any of the boat launch areas. There is one at HWY 22, but that's crowded with fisherpeople. Out on Hwy C there is another launch with parking area.

Rendezvous Paddle and Sports is right on hwy 22 and sells and rents a great selection of kayaks and canoes, paddles, accessories, fishing supplies and great breakfasts and lunches.

If you paddle the Fox to Puckaway, you can stop at River's Bend which is a perfect stop for a food and beverage stop. There is a kayak/canoe take out area just east of the large dock/pier area. If you continue down to Lake Puckaway, you will find Good Old Days which is a full service bar and restaurant.

Directions:

Highway 22 north from Highway 51 north out of Madison, WI.

Highway 23 west from Fond du Lac/Oshkosh

Highway 23 east from Interstate 39 north out of Madison.
