Trip Overview

Entered Broad River off of Highway 18 and paddled 19.7 miles to the Salem Irene bridge on highway 211. Water was low so had to get in and out of kayak about 15 times to cross shallow areas. Had 2 portages, one at Cherokee Falls and one at 99 island dam.

Overall excellent trip, took approximately 8 hrs with a half hr lunch break. Recommend traveling in pairs with descent shoes and rope for portage around the dam. It would have been better if we waited for a good night of rain to raise river level before trip.

Overall very scenic and unpopulated nature trip. Highly recommend for a quiet day of solitude.
